Smart cycling

We are concerned with the use of bicycles as alternative transportation means in cities. Questions related to bike sharing, cycle paths planning and evaluations, e-bikes, and integration among multiple modals are considered in this research line. Data science, machine learning and IoT paradigms are exploited to achieve innovative solutions in this area.

Internet of Bikes

The use of "bicycles as a service" is investigated within the context of Internet of Things and emerging Smart Cities. Innovative approaches comprising embedded computing and mobile networking are proposed as a way to address multiple challenges of sustainable mobility. Doing so, the perspectives of smart cities and bicycles can be combined, associating multiple concurrent systems.

Emergency vehicles

Since urban areas are prone to critical situations, emergency vehicles are necessary to attend to victims and mitigate the negative impacts of urban crises. In this sense, ambulances, fire trucks, police vehicles and transit agent vehicles may be dispatched to the affected areas. The designing and deployment of emergency detection systems, as well as the development of algorithms and protocols in the context of Intelligent Transportation Systems, are sought in this research line.
